replacement and maintenance
Builderplus windows maintenance: We specialise in repairing and replacing windows.
Windows Repairing:
If your windows are aged, don’t rush to get them replaced as they can be repaired so that the style of your house remains intact. We understand that this will keep up the price of your property.
Common problems in windows are rotten sills, boxes and frames, open sash joints, broken sash cords and pulleys, rattles and unbalanced sash weights.
Rotten sills, boxes and frames:
We thoroughly check damaged parts of the window and make a decision on how we will repair this. If it is a sill in bad condition then sometimes the quickest method is just to replace it, whereas if it was a frame or box then it’s most likely to be repaired. After we finish repairing the damaged areas in the sash box, sill or frame, we always prime and undercoat them so it will protect them until the painter starts his part of the job.
Open sash joints:
Before beginning our work we thoroughly check the window and think about how we will repair this. There are a few methods to repair open or cracked sash joints. Most likely, we will have to take out the sashes from the box and then repair them. After repair we will prime and undercoat them to protect them until the painter starts his part of the job.
Sash pulleys, cords and balances:
To repair pulleys if they are stuck/stiff, we can use an anti-rust spray. If we are unable to return them to a good condition then we will need to replace them as pulleys are a very important aspect of windows which take on a lot of weight. If sash pulleys are broken or faulty, we will see this on the sash cords as they will start breaking. If this has already happened then there is only one solution – they must be replaced. Replacing sash cords is a long process which requires taking the entire window apart. When we do this, we always check the weight of the sash balances and if needed, we add weight. When a job like this is done, we recommend doing this at the same time as staff and parting beads to ensure your windows are fully drought proofed.
Draught proofing for sash and casement windows:
Sash and casement window draught proofing is an excellent choice if you want to keep your home quiet and warmer. Without draught proofing, it can be much harder to keep heat in your home, and rattling and stiffness might also occur. However, by using our services you can stop this from happening as we will install staff beads and parting beads with 6mm brushes. This will also add value to your home and reducing your energy bills in the process. This service can also make the opening and shutting of your windows smoother whilst blocking out external noise and will ensure your windows run smoothly.
Windows replacement:
If your sash/casement windows cannot be repaired then we will recommend doing a replacement. We are a FENSA registered company and can provide a FENSA certificate for the new windows. Windows that we offer are made in our workshop. To make windows we use hardwood for the sill, and softwood for the box. We use only high quality ironmongery and security locks.
